To the Christian, Your love walk is powered by your Word-walk. The more of the word that is at work in your life, the more you are enabled to live out a life of love. A life of love is a life that portrays the person and character of God. The word of God is a representation of God Himself. And since God is love, His word is therefore a love manual. So, patterning your life so that you are living by the word of God will cause you to walk in love. Consequently therefore your love walk is as potent as your word walk. It is very important that we note this and always keep it at the back of our minds
Apostle John further reiterates this and stresses that loving one another is equivalent to walking according to God’s commandments by saying in his second epistle writing,
“This is love, that we walk according to His commandments” (2 John 1:6). According to him, walking according to God’s commandments is what actually produces love.
I would like to pick on one of the lines of prayer offered by Paul as he writes to the church in Ephesus. He says, praying:
“…that you, being rooted and grounded in love...” To be rooted and grounded in love is to be rooted and grounded in the teachings of God. When we master His teachings, and are subject and driven by them, we will live out love.
1 peter 2:2 makes it clear that growth is possible and essential for any child of God. It also however qualifies the condition that is required for the growth. It says “…desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby”. Now, although this is was aimed at new believer, it does not take away the fact that it is only the Word of God in its “pure” form that brings about growth. Many people may have seen little growth in their walk with the Lord simply because they have most likely not being feeding on the pure Word of God. The purity of the word is affected when it is altered and misinterpreted and therefore wrongly obeyed in order to suit our unwillingness to take it as it is. The word is diluted when we add our bits or take away from it so that it becomes what we would rather have it to be. This would not promote growth.
The level and the brightness of light in which you operate in determines the height of flight at which you fly at; such that- the brighter your light is, the higher your flight will be. Light is a symbol of truth and illumination that comes in most cases to enlighten, reveal, correct and direct.
You cannot give what you do not have; so until light takes root in your heart, you will not be able to shine as light. Letting your light shine can refer to the process or the art of living your life in the light of the Word of God through the help of the Holy Spirit.
When we live in the light of His word, we automatically shine as lights wherever we find ourselves. Living as lights demands that we perpetually live as transformed beings. It requires that we get to a place of transfiguration where our inward nature is being reflected on the outside.
Looking at Jesus, the bible records of how He was transfigured in the presence of Peter, James, and John on a high mountain so that according to the gospel of Mark chapter 9:3,
“His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.”
The verse says that His clothes became shining after He was transfigured. Your shining will always begin at the point of your transfiguration; and your transfiguration will always take place on the high mountain. Your route to that high mountain is deep in the Word of God so that the deeper you go in it, the higher you climb up the mountain. If you are not ready to go deep in His Word, then you are not ready to climb up the mountain and you are not ready to be transfigured, and you are ultimately not ready to shine.
Looking at Moses also- a man who shone with Glory; he did not start to shine until he had spent time with God on the mountain. The bible records two main occasions where Moses ascended the mountain to spend time with God. On both occasions, the bible records that he spent 40 days in the presence of the Lord alone. Just himself and God
Now, we do not need to spend 40 days and nights in His presence to shine. The key to shining here, is learning to be in the presence of the Lord; and not just being in His presence alone, but spending quality time with Him! Moses was alone with God with no interference; in this day and age where everything is done on the go, we still need to always create time to be in His presence. Just ourselves and God; no one else!
Note that the bible did not record of Moses’ shining on the occasion of the first time he went on the mountain but on the second occasion. This goes to show that we ought not to just spend time with God on occasional basis alone i.e. when we go to church, but rather on a regular, consistent basis.
We can therefore conclude that the key to our shining is tied to our willingness to spend quality time with the Lord.
“We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty…”
After, they finished their worship of God, the following verse showed the result of their thanks and worship,
“Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple...”
The people who know how to thank God very well are always custodians of His presence.
