Although my parents were divorced, as a little child I always felt love all around me. Maybe that was partly because I looked like my mother, with blonde hair and huge blue eyes. Or maybe it was to make up for the fact that I lived in a “broken” home. All I knew was that Momma loved me and Daddy loved me (even if he wasn’t living with us anymore), and I loved them too. For me, back then, love meant hugs and cuddles, baby dolls and daydreams, and feeling the admiration of those around me. Like when Daddy took me to a truck stop and asked me to sing and dance for the truckers. I loved to sing and I loved people, so it just seemed the natural thing to do. At other times, he made and hauled “white lightin” through the mountains of North Georgia. He would set me on top of the boxes of liquor and I’d wave and smile at the policeman in their patrol cars as they passed by. Granny once told me that my daddy was “called of God” to preach, but he loved alcohol more. All of which caused me, a little later on, to wonder what love was all about. If I loved dolls and Daddy loved whiskey and Momma loved me – what did love really mean anyway? After the divorce, my momma moved my brother, sister and me into a government housing home. When a local church sent a bus to pick us up for Sunday school and Bible camp, I began to learn about another kind of love – agape – God’s love. This love doesn’t look at the outside. It doesn’t care about your hair color or your skin color or where you live. It’s a giving kind of love. And when I heard that God gave His only Son to die for our sins, I knew I wanted Jesus to come live in my heart. I didn’t understand at the time that I was also to let go of my own selfish desires and make Him the Lord of my life. God asks for childlike faith. It is with childlike faith that I go to the Lord, and it is childlike faith that helps me to see myself sitting in my heavenly Father’s lap, letting Him love me and loving Him back. In my travels throughout the United States and other countries, I see so many people who try to fill the emptiness in their hearts with drugs, alcohol, sex or material possessions. What they are really looking for is love. They just don’t know that His name is Jesus. Now, each morning when I wake up, I tell my Heavenly Father how much I love Him and that I desire to bless Him and worship Him this day with my life as well as to be a blessing to others. With childlike anticipation, I ask, “Lord, how can I bless You?” Are you ready to take your eyes off yourself and focus on Him? If you will begin today praying this prayer with me, by the end of one month, you will have a brand-new mindset toward the One who knows you best and loves you most. God will open up new doors and windows of opportunity that you could never have imagined in all your wildest dreams.

About the Author
Elizabeth Weatherby enjoys a child-like love relationship with Jesus Christ. She doesn't take a step without Him. She literally leaves her house each day and starts out on a "Love Walk with Jesus." Elizabeth says, "He simply wants us to take His hand each and every day and walk with Him through this life, by Loving Him, Trusting Him and Obeying Him." Would you like to come along?
