Nights in Gray

Passing time away
watching nights in gray.
Looking to the skies
as summer slowly dies.
Coming into view
autumn winds heading through.
Seeking shelter, you and I

She shies away from sadness,
preferring to sail the sunny skies.
She ignores the potholes piling up far below.
She only knows the upper side of life.

Separating shadows from the night
she finds morning peering through a cloud.
While others sort through life's trivialities
she glides on rainbows only she can see.

A Half Blue Sky

Looking up at a half blue sky,
wondering why the sun shines
half the time.
Half a life spent pondering,
half a day lost wandering.

Walking through the graying light,
senses half tuned
to the half truths being told.
Growing old looking up
at a half blue sky.

I saw her standing
toward the end of time.
She let her heart bleed out
into a river of thought,
never knowing
I was catching her dreams
inside my own masked fears.

I heard her praying
into the endless sky above.
She let her hopes pour out
toward a passing cloud,
never fearing
I was holding her future
inside my own trembling hand.

I've lived with the storm,
I've sensed the wonder.
Being far from warm
I've felt the thunder.

I've tasted the rain
as it fell on me.
Living with the pain
there's so much to see.

I've watched love pass by
in every season.
I still seek to fly
beyond all reason.

Others stay inside
far away from here.
I choose not to hide
from the touch of fear.

Storms come and they go.
As I contemplate
this one thing I know -
love is worth the wait.
