The War Between The Flesh And The Spirit
Just like a baby in the natural womb have its earthly parent’s DNA that carries certain traits, diseases, as well as influential familiar spirits of that family when they are born, those are things of the flesh—yokes that need to be destroyed.
When we are born again spiritually, we are grafted with a new DNA—the Spirit and blood of Jesus. However, we still have our fleshly body that houses our new creation in Christ and those familiar spirits that follow us to see if they can trip us up. Therefore, we have to accept the work of the grafting so that we can begin to look more like our heavenly Father and less of the world. We must die to the fleshly nature until the resemblance of our heavenly Father is undeniable. We have to submit to the process of the reshaping of our spiritual being, and it starts with a new mindset—the mind of Christ.
After I was born again, my mind had to be transformed by the Word of God. Just like we take treatments in the natural we have to take the same approach of the Word of God and follow His divine ordain order accordingly—even his Word through those whom He has chosen to shepherd us—who are His spiritual doctors. And like the doctors in the natural sometimes refer us to a specialist because of our situations, God will have others to come that have the anointing to bring forth the deliverance we need. But we must be willing to submit to it—go through the process and do what our heavenly Father has ordered. If we do not, we will live a defeated life and not be useful as we should for our Father. Our Father wants the best for us, and He wants us to be our best, which will bring honor and glory to His Name.
The Flesh Against The Spirit
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law” (Galatians 5:16-18). Walking in the Spirit takes perseverance, for the devil do not want anyone to break free from the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16). But we cannot just put everything on the devil either—for we are our worst enemy. There are things of the flesh we have not desired to get rid of, and yet we want to know why we keep going through or why we are struggling with specific spirits. It is because we crave the gratification we receive from them. If we get tired of being sick in the natural and decide to seek out a doctor, we have to get sick and tired of not being victorious when we have everything to be more than a conqueror.
We have to stop lying to ourselves about what is going on with us too. I was saved and sanctified and truly loved my Father in heaven, but I was also struggling with a lust spirit. This familiar spirit had been with me ever since my childhood. And connecting up with people with that same spirit caused me to be even more entangled, because of the desires of my heart and a rebellious mindset.
Once I came under a strong leader who could see in the Spirit, I began to submit more and more to my heavenly Father. I would do fine for a while, but when I was around those familiar spirits the war would begin, and the battle got harder, and instead of using my armor properly I would surrender to my flesh instead of the Spirit of God. However, my heavenly Father never stopped loving me and leading me to the place of my deliverance, for He knew I desired a deeper relationship with Him. He knew I wanted to live right. Although I had my armor, I had to learn how to use each piece skillfully.
The armor is not for us to know about or just put it on—we must know how to use it according to the battle we encounter. A solider in the natural go through basic training to learn what to do and how to use their equipment. And the practice does not end with basic training it continues so they will become more skillful and able to protect themselves, their comrades, and the nation. So it is in the spiritual. We are not just fighting for ourselves only, but for other saints, family members, and others that our father is calling unto Him. We are defending the Kingdom of God on earth—the Church. Each of us who are saved is a part of the body of Christ.
My not walking in the spirit at all times was a misrepresentation of the Kingdom of God—the Church, and it brought disgrace to the whole body and made my witness of God ineffective. Even more, it is a spit in God’s face. My life was telling others that God was not able to keep me—that’s a lie from the pits of hell. However, that is what I was demonstrating when I was not delivered, not being obedient, and not allowing the Holy Spirit to have His way. I was trying to do it my way—I had the equipment, but I was not using it properly. Why? I had not completely surrendered everything to the Lord, and I was not strong in the Lord.
