The Valley

I need help! I need someone to help me get through this valley! This is no easy task and no one gave me a "book of instructions" as to how I'm supposed to handle all of this.
I feel alarmed, perplexed, astonished! They just keep popping up from everywhere! They quarrel, argue, contend and squabble all day long!
But they are a team! They sound as if they hate each other but they work together, they know exactly who is assigned to what!
What I'm understanding is that they resemble an army! They are united with strength and power. The more I entertain their voices, the greater their potential, their intensity and force!
The reality is that now I'm concerned. They've clearly identified themselves as "many" or "legion".... so, what else will I be faced with?
Temptation gently directs words to others that manifest and show up ahead on the road "I was wondering when you all were planning on joining us again. Did you all take a nap? Is that you, Contention?"
"Of course, I'm Contention, can't you tell? I'm ready to manifest and confront whatever and whoever, so, here I am! I'm your best defense when confrontation arises. You can have anyone of these with you but without me, your battle is lost. I'm determined to win, to have the last word, I'm full of strife and not afraid to encounter any situation."
"Hmmmm... not me! I’d rather not argue or even speak because my name is Pride and I am so special. I'm here to help you feel great! I usually team up with Vanity to make you feel as if you are on top of the world! We have so much to offer, more than all the others because no one is as great as we are. Well, no one is as great as I am. And, you can be as great as me, if you let me hang around."
“Pride, you love to be the center of attention. But we, all of us, the entire squad, we are all important. We plan on sticking with you - yup, yesssiree…..we are going to help you move along and cross this valley. Yup, yup, yup... I'm Contention, I'm very aware of all that is happening and, you need us all; all of us, just in case; and by the way, this is public territory, correct? So, we have every right to walk with you, correct? In case you didn’t know, our superior, well, our father, well, he’s the leader of the pack, he actually is the ruler of a kingdom. He has power and authority of the air we’re breathing."
What friends? What squad? What team? What are they talking about? And, what kingdom? They babble on and on and on.
I hear it, another…. Yes, I hear a faint, shy-like voice:
"Hi, hi. You can call me Low Self-Esteem. I want to walk with you too. Is it alright if I do?"
"Hi Low Self-esteem. I might as well talk to you too. I don't know if you should walk with me. What will the others think? I do feel weak. Now that I think about it; I've never been able to accomplish anything of importance in my life. I feel like I'm not enough, I sometimes feel ashamed as to who I am."
"It's because you are insufficient. You are somewhat of a failure; correct? Think about this: if you even get to cross this valley, do you actually think you're capable of getting anything of importance done on your own? Of course not! You need me. You are not enough on your own. "
"Wait, just a moment, you all need to slow down! I want to be part of this assignment. Hey you all, don't you recognize me? You’re not leaving me behind. I'm Discouragement. You obviously cannot cross this valley without me. You are not capable of doing anything, really, but perhaps if I lead you...maybe..."
