Is civilization on the verge of collapse? Are we destined to destroy the world? Can our sense of moral responsibility override our ideologies before it is too late? All of creation is groaning and the signs are everywhere that something unprecedented is about to happen.
Like John the Baptist, as one crying out in the wilderness, I want to issue a wake-up call to people everywhere. The time is short! Don’t delay! Whether you are a believer who has struggled with faith issues or a non-believer wanting answers to existential questions, I encourage you to take the time to reach the conclusion that you are willing to bet your life on. Your decision has eternal ramifications!
Ever since Jesus walked the streets of Jerusalem, inquisitive minds have struggled to interpret the implications of the Bible’s prophecies of earth’s final days upon civilization. We’ve contemplated the human condition in great depth, analyzed our correlation with our Creator and ultimately questioned the validity of that relationship. In a postmodern world, cultural norms no longer reflect the Christian values that the North American founding fathers wrote into our constitutions and laws. What has emerged is a plethora of worldviews full of contradiction and confusion, that has left the populace searching for an identity and grasping to define what identity is.
In the face of such an array of worldviews, each presenting unique evidence to substantiate their truth claims, critical thinking is the mechanism that allows us to sort through the obstacle course that threatens to take the legs out from under our attempt to find truth. The time has come to break the paradigm that science and Christianity do not mesh, and as scientific methodologies and technologies improve, there is no longer a need to deny that God is embedded in science. It defies logic and takes more faith to believe in evolution than it does to believe in creation.
When we objectively analyze our universe and the world we live in, the evidence is everywhere that we live in God’s creation. His signature is everywhere when we open our eyes, our minds and our hearts to see what has been plainly revealed to those who believe. No matter what perceptions about our origins are promoted, no matter what opinions are considered popular, no matter what ideas are put forward about morality, the evidence that is available for evaluation suggests very strongly, that God made everything. He is the creator of the universe, he is the author of our morality and he is truth.
Many people dismiss the Bible as mythical and fictional based upon what they consider to be a lack of evidence for its authenticity or historicity, however when it is held to the same standard as other ancient documents of similar age, it can easily be considered authentic. There are thousands upon thousands of manuscripts with only minor variations in spelling and grammar that testify to the accuracy of the hand copied specimens of the 66 books of the Bible. Yet the Bible is continually challenged and criticized because unlike other literary compilations, it demands a response from the reader and lays claim to absolute truth.
All of creation is groaning under the weight of sin. It is evident in nature, in politics and in humanity. War is common and the last century has witnessed more bloodshed than the previous nineteen combined. With all the warnings of climate change in the news, combined with blood red moons, famines, earthquakes, hurricanes and typhoons that are increasing in both frequency and intensity, many are worried that nature is about to crumble from the impact of industrialization.
We are living in the last days. There are signs everywhere that our world cannot take much more. However, what we consider to be the breaking point may be just the beginning. As Christians are persecuted daily around the globe, and floods, wars and famines maim the earth, as the climate gets more and more extreme and earthquakes seem to happen daily, we are called to live by faith. As the nations form alliances, and the tension in the middle east increases at an increasing rate and the morality of civilization accelerates in its decline, we must recognize that these are just the beginning of birth pains. We are called to stand firm until the end.
If only everyone could understand and appreciate the completeness and utter beauty of the Bible. How the Old Testament is so perfectly portrayed in the life of Jesus. Each and everything he did was with purpose. Each and everything that happened in the Old Testament paved the way for Jesus. How God’s passion for humanity is displayed and betrayed. How he tries to convince his people to follow him only to have them turn away. How he tries everything, from spectacular rescues, amazing victories, stern discipline and finally holding nothing back, not even his own son. Only to have them turn away once more. And ultimately the whole world is blessed, as Gentiles are adopted as children of God. But even this does not win the hearts of his chosen people, until he reveals his hidden glory for all to see. It is a profound love story. A passion that envelopes all of history. For what purpose? So that God could show us the depth of his love, patience, grace and forgiveness. So that on the day of judgement, the evidence is so clear that all men are without excuse. So that when perfection comes, only perfection enters in. Not perfection gained through human effort but the perfection of Christ, given as a free gift to those who believe in him. So that when we stand before the Righteous Judge, it is not our sin that he sees, but the blood of Christ.
Unless Christ makes you spiritually alive, you have never really lived. Unless you have a relationship with Christ, your life is missing out on the very peace and happiness most people seek in this world. Make time and take time to get to know Jesus and experience his love for yourself.
