Introduction
This book was written to help readers learn the “how to,” when it comes to walking in obedience with the Lord. So many times as I sat in church and listened to many men and women of God tell me what the scriptures say; but none could tell me how to do what the scriptures were telling me to do. So I embarked on this journey one day at a time with the Holy Spirit teaching me as I go. I would read a scripture and want to be obedient, but would find myself asking, “But Lord, how do I do this?” This book was birthed from my desire to help others learn the physical, emotional and spiritual feelings that come as you go through the processes of sanctification and walk toward obedience. As I learn daily, I am sure I will want to do an update to this book. This is the first step the Lord took me through, humility…which to me is the greatest step of all. May you be blessed and challenged as you begin an awesome adventurous journey with our Lord Jesus, to reunite us as one in the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit.
CHAPTER 1
What is Power?
What is power? Rather, what is a power? Strong’s
Concordance # 1411 defines power as dunamis. Dunamis is defined as (miraculous) power, might, strength. It is used in relation to (a) physical power, force, might ability, efficacy, energy. It also means powerful deeds, deeds showing (physical) power, marvelous works. According to HELPS Word-studies the word dunamis is also known as dynamis (from 1410/dynamai, “able, having ability”) – “ability to perform;” for the believer, power to achieve by applying the Lord’s inherent abilities. “Power through God’s ability” is needed in every scene of life to really grow in sanctification and prepare for heaven, or glorification. Dynamis is used in the New Testament 120 times. The word is originated from dunamai, again
meaning ability, meaning, mightily, mighty, miracles, miraculous powers, power, powers, strength, wealth.
The first scripture that comes to mind when I think of power is Luke 10:19. For all references of scripture in this book, I will consistently take from the Amplified Version of the Bible unless otherwise noted. In Luke 10:19 the Lord Jesus tells us, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (KJV). The Amplified version of this scripture reads, “Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.
Let’s dissect this scripture a bit. These are the Words coming from the Lord Jesus Himself. He is stating to us that He has given us AUTHORITY and POWER. If He has given us this power and authority, have you ever asked yourself, why am I still being defeated? I have. Over the last four years, my life and the life of my family has been
turned upside down and inside out. I can say this with peace and comfort as I write, because the Lord Jesus, by way of the Holy Spirit has brought me to a place of steadfast patient endurance. This power, the Lord Jesus is referring to, is not something we attain without steadfastness, patient endurance, and obedience. If I had to give a brief description of coming to a place of walking in the authority and power Jesus is referring to, I would couple obedience with humility, which cannot be obtained without The Word of God.
I hope to bring an understanding concerning overcoming with the power of humility and resisting pride in our everyday walk in dealing with us who are and have been fallen prey to the wiles and schemes of the enemy. An important nugget of truth as we go through this book, is this…I cannot walk this walk for you. I cannot make you pick up your Bible and seek out the Lord for yourself. I only hope to encourage you and urge you with a great urgency to eagerly pursue a divine, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. One that you cannot go a moment alone without His presence. As Moses stated to God in Exodus 33:15, … “Then Moses said to him, if your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.”
