The Little Church That Loves Me
In my town there is a little church with arms open wide,
It whispers “I love you, come inside.”
The windows are open and under the trees, the bees and the butterflies dance in the shade.
It whispers “I love you, see what God made.”
The music is happy and played by a band. The guitar and piano strut hand in hand.
It whispers “I love you, sing as loud as you can.”
Its rooms are filled with people like you and like me; all ages and colors and nationalities. Here I learn about Jesus and how to be kind.
It whispers “I love you, bring your friends next time.”
I love my church in springtime when flowers like dew spread over the garden.
Wow, what a view!
It whispers “I love you, too.”
I love my church in summer as friends gather around and share Vacation Bible School with our whole town.
It whispers “I love you, too.”
I love my church in autumn when the leaves all fall down, and both pumpkins and families sit on its grounds.
It whispers “I love you, too.”
I love it in winter when snow comes to call. Advent is the season loved most of all. With garlands and crèches and candles and trees, we worship the Savior on bended knees.
In winter and springtime, both summer and fall,
It whispers “I love you, come one and come all.”
I shout “I Love You, Too!”

About the Author
Mary Lane is the author of The Ten Commandments for Children. She is a graduate of Gardner-Webb College and a commissioned Stephen Minister within the United Methodist Church. She is blessed to be a wife, mother, and grandmother, and enjoys traveling with her husband, family and friends. One of her favorite pastimes is reading to children.
