LITTLE GIRL AT PLAY
I watched as she played in her own little world,
Oblivious to the things all around,
There were no thoughts of worry or of fear
To things in life that abound.
The stuffed animals seemed to all come to life
With animated banter and motion,
And I marveled as she played so intently unaware
Of the world all around and its notions.
Her giggles were contagious and I caught myself laughing
At the sound of her voice in the air,
How funny to watch her dancing round the room
With a monkey and a brown teddy bear.
How simple her life, so different than mine,
As her thoughts were only of play,
I wished I could join her in this lively make-believe,
If I just could figure out a way.
To become like a child, would be such a dream,
Free from stresses, anxiety and doubt,
And not have to worry o’er the everyday things
And enjoy what life’s all about.
I would pretend and laugh and dance all around
If only just for a day,
And forget all my troubles and laugh through my tears,
And be a little girl at play.

About the Author
Janet Fant is a person of deep faith and is devoted to her family. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor Degree in Child Development and Family Relations. She has spent her life serving the Lord through children’s ministries, teaching, singing and sharing the love of God. She is married to Jim, a United Methodist pastor and loves the role as a pastor’s wife. Mother of two adult children, her passion is writing and making disciples for Jesus Christ.
