Monday: Hidden Hero
2nd Joyful Mystery: The Visitation
Scripture:
The Lord goes forth like a hero,/ like a warrior he stirs up his ardor;/ He shouts out his battle cry,/ against his enemies he shows his might.
--Isaiah 42:13
Reflection:
Humble Mary, still amazed by what the angel told her, hastily traveled to the house of Elizabeth to aid her in her time of need. Jesus was the hidden hero on the day that His Mother Mary greeted Elizabeth, because He was concealed in her womb. Elizabeth and John were the first people He ever visited, to bring them the gifts of the Lord.
Prayer:
Lord, visit all police officers and firefighters with the gifts of the Holy Spirit today and keep them safe from harm. Amen.
Tuesday: Take Up the Cross
4th Sorrowful Mystery: The Carrying of the Cross
Scripture:
My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.
--John 10:27-28
Reflection:
Mary gave her fiat to God to do what He willed. Likewise, we must recognize that God has mysteriously linked the Way of the Cross to our salvation, and give Him our fiat as well. If and when the cross comes our way, we strive to accept it as best we can.
Prayer:
Dear Mary, Virgin Gentle in Mercy, please pray for me to take up my cross daily and follow Jesus, with obedience and with love. Amen.
Wednesday: Sea of Love
1st Glorious Mystery: The Resurrection of Our Lord
Scripture:
I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, God’s dwelling is with the human race. He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them [as their God]. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, [for] the old order has passed away.”
--Revelation 21:3-4
Reflection:
When we leave this life, all of our sufferings, difficulties and tribulations will appear to be surreal, compared to the beautiful appearance of Jesus, Who will be awaiting us in the next life.
Prayer:
If it please God, I look forward to being in heaven one day, and being in a sea of love – loving and being loved by all, including Jesus. Lord, infuse Your love into all families, so that divisions no longer exist within them, but only love. Amen.
Thursday: Virtue and Holiness
2nd Luminous Mystery: The Wedding Feast at Cana
Scripture:
When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”
--John 2:3
Reflection:
When Jesus said to His mother, “Woman, how does your concern affect me?” (John 2:4), He really might have been informing her that she must be the one to begin His ministry in the world.
Prayer:
Jesus, take my natural human nature and turn it into virtue and holiness, just as You turned water into wine. Amen.
Friday: Comforting Balm
1st Sorrowful Mystery: The Agony in the Garden
Scripture:
Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to feel sorrow and distress.
--Matthew 26:36-37
Reflection:
Our Lord Jesus took our sins and paid the penalty of those sins on the Cross. He was alone in the Garden of Gethsemane with His contemplation of the terrifying sacrifice yet to come, because His disciples fell asleep despite his repeated attempts to awaken them to His plight.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, You chose to come down to unify Yourself with Your people in the pains and misfortunes of life. Grant me the gift of calmness in my own times of struggle with anxiety, suffering and anguish. Strengthen me and give me the comforting balm of Your love. Amen.
Saturday: Safety Net
5th Joyful Mystery: The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple
Scripture:
When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart, you will find me with you, says the Lord.
--Jeremiah 29:13-14
Reflection:
We often get off track spiritually, and Jesus can seem far away from us. But, He died to make sure that He would be available to us always, if we would only seek Him.
Prayer:
Jesus, assist me in remembering You, and Your safety net of divine love. Teach me to turn to You even in my darkest moments. Amen.
Sunday: A Beautiful Outcome
5th Glorious Mystery: The Coronation of our Blessed Mother as Queen of Heaven and Earth
Scripture:
I will put enmity between you and the woman,/ and between your offspring and hers;/ He will strike at your head,/ while you strike at his heel.
--Genesis 3:15
Reflection:
Our Mother Mary is someone who is fully human, yet she can show us the way to the divine. She crushed the head of the serpent, not directly, but as a result of the existence of her Son. She teaches us how our human efforts can be used, by the divine, to create a beautiful outcome.
Prayer:
Dear Mary, Mother of Divine Grace, lead all teachers by the hand and show them how to inspire the little ones under their care in their classrooms. Help these children to grow up to become saints of the next generation. Amen.
