Isabella sank to her knees when the news arrived. She never really believed that he would be hanged. Her prayers had been the faithful and fervent pleadings of a loving wife. Abel was still sleeping. Having had a fitful night with a slight fever and a raspy cough, she had decided to let him sleep for another few hours. A light snowfall from the night before was just beginning to melt in the Calder Valley and the promise of spring was in the crisp morning air. “April the month of new beginnings. God be with us,” she prayed aloud. Looking out the large front window, she watched the darkness fade and the cobblestone street below brighten with the sun, as the shadows of neighboring buildings crept away.
She was grateful for the glass. It was an inexpensive quality, with a muted opaqueness, including bubble tracks, which she knew by heart. It gave light to the room and relaxed her eyes from the strain of working the loom. This was Heptonstall, a sleepy village built on a steep hill in West Yorkshire, so far from London. Another world away.

These are men and women of courage who tackled the challengers of persecution, pioneering and personal tragedy with varying degrees of faith and a full measure of fortitude. Extensive research into historical events of the past and the lives of each ancestor is woven together to create a fascinating look at a family tree.
About the Author
Jennifer Brooks has spent years researching her family ancestry and then making observations about both the good and bad of human nature, the work of God in people’s lives, and how each generation leaves a lasting impact on the generations to follow. It is her own personal faith that motivates her in her writing. Jennifer has been married to her husband, Gary, for 45 years, and they have four children and six grandchildren. They live in St. Louis, Missouri and enjoy their summers in northern Michigan where they both grew up. This is Jennifer’s first book.
