Star of North

Star of North, guiding light,
Falling snow, and moonlit night.
Three nights till Christmas, the children sing.
“What gifts? What gifts will Santa bring?”

A boy so small
Enters the mall.
His hope for gifts
Is twelve feet tall.

There Santa sits—
Red hat, white mitts,
Jingling bells,
And Christmas glitz.

”So many kids are in line!”
The boy thought, “It’s fine.
Santa will hear their wishes
And then he’ll hear mine!”

But oh, the shock—
First tick, then tock.
The mall is closing;
‘Twas nine o’clock.

Faster than a blink
Or a snowman’s wink,
Santa is suddenly gone!
The boy has no time to think.

Quick to the roof,
He finds clear proof—
Tracks in the snow
By sleigh and hoof.

Then, clear as day,
Reindeer, red sleigh.
The boy jumps in
And hides away.

“I’ll fly in stow
Where Santa goes!
Then share my wish
So Santa knows!”

“Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, magical herd!
Fly to the star so bright!”
A flash, straight through
To time long past—
A small town comes in sight.

The boy looks in amazement
From the sleigh in the sky
As an angel comes down
From the heavens up high.

The angel of God appears to a virgin named Mary.

And the angel says,
“Mary, God is pleased with you.
You will give birth to the Son of God,
And you will name him Jesus.
He will be great, and His kingdom will never end.”

“How will this happen?” Mary asks with doubtless wonder.

And the angel answers,
“God will use his power,
And that is why the holy baby will be called the Son of God.
Nothing is impossible for God.”

Mary replies to the angel, “I serve God. Let this happen as you say.”

Then the angel goes away.

The boy looks upward to the skies,
And stardust falls into his eyes.
To faint bleating of distant sheep,
The boy’s eyes close; he falls asleep.
