Chapter 5 - Knowing Who You Are
When I began to learn the word and what God wanted for His children, I was able to experience and see my worth in and through Him more clearly. I was able to shed off all the lies that religion had taught me. It was a truly beautiful thing. You are not what, or who others say you are, nor what your circumstances have been. You have royalty and an inheritance that God clothes you in once you give your life to the Lord. Christ’s blood becomes our precious covering. He washes away all of our sin and ugly, and clothes us in His garments of salvation. We become the right-eousness of Christ. Isaiah 61:10 NIV says, “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord and my soul shall exult in my God, for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness.”
I had been seeking people, family and relationships to be my source of joy. When all along I possessed a new identity so much greater in Christ. Through Christ we are given: Son-ship/adoption in Christ, grace, redemption, forgiveness and our identity becomes the exact reflec-tion / image of God. Ephesians 1:5-9 NIV says, “In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which is lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight and making known to us the mystery of his will according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ.” It’s time to look to Him for all of our needs, and for the truth in what He has for us, and who He says we are. In this scripture it also clearly says, He will make known to us the mystery of His will. You don’t have to depend on those around you; elders, a spouse, or a co-worker to understand your direction, purpose, plan for your life, and most of all, to know who you were called to be. How freeing when we understand this in our hearts. We are not under man’s authority, but God’s first.
You possess an everlasting inheritance for all of eternity. You are a co-heir to the throne, more than a conqueror, equipped to do even more then Jesus did while on this earth. This is the truth and hope of where our identity lies. Ephesians 1:13-14 NIV says, “In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of salvation, and believed in him and were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” Not only will we take possession of it once in heaven, but we already have possession of all God has for us here on earth, and He desires for us to take full advantage of the abundant life. The gift of the Holy Spirit in us, is our guide, prompting and instructing us in the way we should go, along with helping us to see our true identity and activate our inher-itance here on earth.
3 John 1:2-4 NIV says, “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well for you, even as your soul is getting along well. It gave me great joy when some be-lievers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” In the NKJV, it states also that you may prosper in all things, in addition to your health. These scriptures reveal that the truth is already in us. It’s up to us to ask God to open our eyes to see our identity for what He already says the truth about us is. This scripture describes to us that we are to prosper in ALL things! In verse 4, it says this brings God great joy when we live out what He has called for us. This means your heath, the wellness of your mind and soul, your finances, and that pros-perity in the work of our hands matter to God. WE ARE TO PROSPER IN ALL THINGS, AS CHILDREN OF GOD! Not just some or in certain areas of life. We are not the identity of our situation, whether sickness and or disease is upon us, or if we struggle in our minds with mental health or lack in our finances /relationships. This is not and will never be our identity and who you are. Christ living on the inside of us, gives us new identity. Once we accept Christ in our hearts, Hebrews 1:3 NIV says, “The Son is the radiance of Gods glory and the exact representa-tion of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.” This describes our new identity, in that we were created in the radiance of Gods glory and in the exact representation of God him-self. WOW!! Super powerful when we grasp this and hard for the human mind to even compre-hend, but this is the truth about who you are.
