It is understandable that quite a number of us may have come to God to fulfill one need or the other, to escape a situation or be delivered from an experience or the other. Even throughout our Christian walk, we need God to do one thing or the other for us. Jesus is warning us against getting caught up in the things that God does to the point that it limits our need for him to only what we can get from him and fail to see the bigger picture of who he is. God is bigger than any need and we must make room for the fullness of who he is. The works that he does are good, but they should ultimately point us to his nature and character and draw us closer to that nature and character. Signs point somewhere, they tell us that there is place or thing beyond the sign that we are looking at. There is a satisfaction that comes from seeing a sign but we don’t get fixated on a sign, we don’t keep staring at the sign and not move beyond it and closer to where it is pointing us unless we do not understand that sign that is in front of us.

There is a saying that goes, “What you focus on expands.” I’d like to say that what you make room for will feel welcome and at home. When there is a desire to get closer or more intimate with something or someone, a conscious effort is made to remove any distractions, hindrances, or anything that will stand in the way of the intimacy that one seeks. Unfortunately, most of us live very busy and complicated lives, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to have those quality moments that we need in order to grow relationships and enjoy intimacy. This has spilled over into our relationships with God as well. In Make Room, author Segun Daramola seeks to help us gain insight into the importance of making sure that our lives are available and pleasurable for God to reside. He provides information about some of the things we can start to do to make that possible, especially if our desire is to enjoy a wonderful relationship with God and draw closer to him. Segun presents a discussion-oriented approach to understanding this topic and suggests practical steps to making room for God.
About the Author
Segun Daramola is a singer and songwriter, and the founder of Chasing Jesus Inc, an organization established with the purpose of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. His mission is to provide resources that help people in their study of the Word of God and create forums that bring together people who have the desire to know God better and live worthy of the calling they have received and in response to the love that Jesus Christ showed through his death and resurrection. Segun is also a member of Grace Community Church in Fulton, Maryland, where he serves on the worship team as a worship leader and a piano player. He also works with other local churches, leading Bible study sessions with various groups. Segun lives in Hanover with his wife, Ola, and their two daughters, Gabrielle and Danielle.
