Purpose:
It’s so easy to get locked into the day-to-day. Alarm clock goes off, time for coffee. Make breakfast, wake the kids, get everyone fed and ready for school. Pack my officers lunch bag for the day, get myself ready too, and it’s out the door to start the day! Then it’s school, work, after school activities, practice, doctor appointments, and everything else in between. Busy schedules can be exhausting! And if you’re a police wife, you’re likely doing all these day to day activities alone. Which makes it that much harder to focus on the big picture in our lives: our purpose.
You may have asked yourself at some point in your lifetime, what is my purpose? Am I where I’m supposed to be? What does God have planned for my life? And though it may seem like a complicated question, the answer is clear and quite obvious in the Bible.
Our purpose is to glorify God.
In Matthew 5:13-16, it says, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.“
In all that you do, seek to glorify God first. Be the light He wants you to be for others, sharing and showing His goodness to everyone you meet. And as you pursue His glorification, He will guide you to where He wants you to be. If you struggle with purpose and fulfilling your purpose on this earth, start with glorifying God in your day-to-day actions and pray for Him to reveal His plans for you. I promise, whatever they are, they will be grand!
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”

”Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen of me and what I will show you.”

A prayer to remember when I’m worried about my purpose:
Dear Heavenly Father,
My heart is heavy with worry about my future. I’m unsure about my purpose and if I’m where you want me to be. Lead me, Father, to your will for my life. Align the desires of my heart to your will, so that I may fulfill my purpose in your kingdom. Reassure me as I go, that I am headed down the right path. Direct my steps, my thoughts, my words, and my actions so that I am led to you. I know you have a great purpose for my life and I seek to fulfill it. Give me strength and courage as I follow you wherever you call me to go. I know I can do all things through you, Lord, and I seek to achieve all that you lay before me. Prepare great blessings for me, as I follow in obedience to you. Amen.

About the Author
Janice Ray is from Gainesville, Georgia and is a graduate of Brenau University and a Zeta Tau Alpha Alumna. After graduating with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she worked for the Department of Defense for 11 years as a Special Agent and Polygraph Examiner. She is a graduate of the National Center for Credibility Assessment in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina and completed her Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from Argosy University in Washington DC.
Janice is now a full time stay at home Mommy, watching her two young children and supporting her husband and his career in federal law enforcement in downtown Washington DC. She has been a law enforcement wife since 2013, with her husband first serving in local law enforcement and now in federal law enforcement. She understands the struggles that are unique to law enforcement families and has a passion for helping others overcome those struggles through Christ-centered guidance and encouragement. In 2018, Janice created The Peacemaker’s Wife, a ministry focused on bringing encouragement and hope to
omen and families who love someone in blue.
