Dear Single Mom, the Lord Knows
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
As a single mother I know there have been many sleepless nights. I am sure there were nights you cried yourself to sleep from the exhaustion of what it takes to raise a family alone. The weight of parenting, the pressure of being responsible for someone else’s needs, and the constant desire to have someone share the load can be so overwhelming. For me, there were so many times the stress of it all left me breathless and too weak to pray or even speak. So many days, with tears streaming down my face, I prayed my famous three-word prayer, “Lord, you know.”
Lord, you know, was all I could muster up. It was all I had left. By the time I got to the “Lord, you know” prayer, I was completely depleted. I had analyzed every option, tried every strategy, and made every phone call. All my efforts were to no avail. The only thing left to do was wave my white flag of surrender to God by uttering “Lord, you know.”
The Lord really did know. He knew what that prayer meant. He knew what I stood in need of. Not only did he know, but he cared. Every “Lord, you know” moment I’ve every had has been followed by an answered prayer or a peace and comfort to accept God’s more perfect plan for me. He saw all my tears and heard all my prayers.
You are not invisible to God. He sees and hears you too. He hears your prayers even when they are said in a thought or breathless whisper. How you feel matters to him. When you are weary, God invites you to go to him for rest. Dear Single Mom, the Lord knows all about it.

Prayer
Thank you for being the God who knows all about me. Forgive me for the times I tried to work out my problems on my own. I need you for so many things right now. Help me to rest in you even though there is so much to fall apart about. I know you see me. You know the challenges I face. You are my fortress. You are the strength of my life. I put myself in your capable hands. I trust that you will bring me through every time. In the wonderful name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Dr. Kisha Cheree Tinson is a native of Greenville, Mississippi, who moved to Los Angeles when her daughter was five years old. The challenges she faced as a single parent compelled her to be vocal and transparent about the emotional, financial, and physical deficiencies she experienced in hopes of helping other single mothers feel empowered and encouraged on their journey.
