Praises, Promises, and Provisions

Our little dog Max and I were all set for our evening walk together. It was still hot and muggy from the long monsoon summer day. In all probability our Maltese/Shihtzu mix of a dog would not go very far and yet I figured that the walk would do us both a little good.

"I just wish it would rain and bring us a little relief from this heat," I thought to myself as Max and I walked down the driveway and started out for a good night's walk. Then it happened.

I looked up into the sky ahead as the sun was setting for the evening. I was stunned at the beauty my eyes were beholding. Dipping down behind the mountain range, a quarter of the golden sun could be seen. Extending from the center were golden yellow rays laying atop the horizon. The remaining clouds took on the colorful hues of orange, red, pink and purple, while patches of blue sky could still be seen. Trees darkened as the colors of sunset lit up the sky. It was a magnificent picture that brought peace and calm to the end of the day.

I stood there, with Max at my side, staring breathlessly at the beautiful sight before me. I took in its awesomeness. "Wow, God, this is amazing!" God's handiwork is always amazing! But tonight, it was spectacular! In that instant, God brought Psalm 113 to my mind. I said it out loud to myself and to my God.

Max and I sat down on the sidewalk. Yes, right there in the middle of the sidewalk. I didn't care what the neighbors thought. After all, God had just given us front row seats to the sunset of the evening. Praise burst forth from my heart, as I sat on the sidewalk, with Max at my side, and God showing me His awesome handiwork. Praise!
