When Jesus sent His disciples in Matthew 10:8, He said, "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give." Many people today, when they do the Lord's work, they charge you something. They tell you, "If you want to receive a blessing, give some money." Jesus said, "Freely receive, freely give." I never charged anyone for their healings yet, and I don't think I'm going to charge anyone for the rest of my life. Even though we had conventions and rented large town halls, we said, "Admission is free, and no collection will be taken in the services." That's the way I started my ministry.
No man can heal anyone without Christ. Jesus has called us to do His work. Jesus said in John 14:12, "He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father." Jesus did so many miracles. He turned water into wine. He healed the lame and the blind, and he cleansed lepers. He calmed the storms and walked on water. He fed more than five thousand people with five loaves and two fish. He raised the dead, even though Lazarus was dead and buried for four days. There are many miracles recorded in the Bible, yet some people say today, "Now, no more miracles can happen because Jesus is gone." Jesus said, "I'm going to My Father, but whatever miracles I have done, you can do the same, and you can do greater than what I have done."
People believe that we cannot do greater things than Jesus, but Jesus Christ was not lying. We see that Jesus Christ only worked in Israel, but today we have jet planes. We can go anywhere and preach the gospel. We have radio, television, satellite, and the internet. We have all kinds of facilities that Jesus didn't have, and so we are preaching the gospel in a greater way than Jesus did in those days.
Now, let's talk about miracles. Peter's shadow healed the sick. Paul's handkerchief was given to sick people, and they were healed. The church was established when Jesus sent the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, and Paul said that he was preparing the church for the return of Christ. These are works that Jesus didn't do, but He allowed us to do them. These are the greater works.
Jesus said in Revelation 1:18, "I am He that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive forevermore." Jesus is alive, and we read in Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever." That means Jesus Christ is an unchangeable God. He is alive today, and He is doing miracles in my life and the lives of many servants of God. If you believe Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will be saved and healed, and you will be doing miracles like Jesus did. The word of God says that we are the body of Christ. If we are the body of Christ, then we are His hands, His feet, and His mouth. We are the ones now here in this world to do miracles and healings and bring the message of salvation to the world.
David says in Psalm 40:5, "Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered." I feel the same way. If I start telling you all the miracles God did in my life, they will be many, but I'm going to tell you a few small and great miracles God did for me.
