Weariness


I need to close my eyes and feel sun soaking a glow into my face

I need to have warm wind gently wrap my whole body ‘round

I need my skin to tingle excitedly with heat

I need my lungs to inhale air of an invigorating new season

I need my feet engulfed by sun-kissed sand

I need deepest corners of my soul refreshed by wave’s lingering mist

I need to open my arms and dance to a bird’s favorite song

I need time of intimacy with my God underneath a smiling blue sky

It’s been a heart’s long winter

Promises, promises


All around are those who take a heart
to give a promise
only to break the promise
and the heart

Men who know You taste the goodness of Your heart
then taste “success”
only to abuse success
and Your heart

The enemy deceives men in their hearts
with a counterfeit promise
always breaking the promise
and hardening hearts

Lord we cry out to You to break hard hearts
to lead to repentance their souls
so You may heal their souls
and their hearts

Lord we cry out to You to rebuild hearts
and make new the minds
then guard the new minds
and the hearts

Lord You have asked us for our whole hearts
to give Your eternal promise
never to break Your promise
or crush our hearts

This life broadcasting praises to You?

I panic to think that You, Oh Lord,

Would pass me by as one in whom

You can’t detect a melody of life-lived worship.

May I not be foolish to believe, Oh King,

That church or group attendance produces

A signal strong enough for Your notice.

Instead refine and purify me, Oh Holy One

To kill off the noise that crowds out my

heart and mind’s transmission of love for You.

Make my life, Oh Living Redeemer,

The clear and strong vibe proclaiming a

Heart of radical love and service to You.
