Pain Means Change
As I was dealing with devastating disappointments and multiple failures, I learned to dig deep inside myself to push through my mental pain. I had to search long and hard to see the potential positive outcomes in my most difficult circumstances. It’s hard to believe that in the midst of suffering there’s any upside possibilities but there usually is at least one hidden benefit or positive outcome. In fact, you can gain emotionally and spiritually from personal hardship by searching for the good in every difficult situation you face.
The upside of emotional pain is the needed warning sign that something is clearly wrong in your life. Mental anguish means personal changes must take place in your life as soon as possible. This will require you to go deep within your heart, soul, and mind to find the answers to your pain and suffering. One thing I’ve learned through the power of prayer is that the solutions to all problems are hidden deep inside the mind. In other words, the answers to your most pressing problems are inside of you right now. However, you must be completely honest with yourself, and allow all the answers to come to the surface of your mind.
Once you follow my suggestions and attain the answers to your most pressing problems, you will then list the specific steps to take in order to attain your peace of mind. Once you have a well-defined gameplan in place, it’s time to take small steps to make daily incremental improvements in your life. These directed actions will add up until your most desired results arrive right along with your peace of mind.

Redirected Thoughts
Some people are blessed with the natural gift of happiness, but the truth is we all have the ability to feel joy on a fairly consistent basis. The challenge rests in your mind which unfortunately has a natural tendency of thinking negatively. If you let your mind wander aimlessly, it will find its way to nagging doubts and fears. This will lead to a form of depression or at the very least, an unpleasant state of moodiness. You can control your mind by making a conscious effort to direct your thoughts on all of your current blessings. I suggest you write down all of your blessings in what I call a Positive Asset List (PAL). Create, and then embrace your positive asset list anytime you want to feel grateful. Doing this regularly will direct your mind towards joy and away from moodiness.
Think of your mind as split in two parts: the positive upper-half and the negative lower half. Negative thoughts are heavy and sink to the lower half of your mind where they ferment. When you have negative thoughts, they have a way of rising to the surface and contaminating your entire mind. Over time, your mind fills up with a fog of negativity. Unaware, you start to think negatively about yourself and the world in general. The first way to fight this is to be aware that it’s happening. In a state of full awareness, you can take control by redirecting your mind from bad thoughts towards positive goals. This conscious act is a mental discipline to practice until it becomes a natural habit pattern. Once mastered, your life will never be the same again.
