A School Social Worker is like an octopus with eight arms all going in different directions, as they attempt to meet the many and diversified needs of their kids. All who work with kids need to share together their perspective of each of their students, and compare strengths, innate abilities, perceived weakness, physical , academic and social limitations.
How can we who work with kids possibly expect to make a difference with our kids if we don’t have a true knowledge of them and their families and what is important to them, and not just us. School Social Workers with their innate skills can often be the bridge to understanding between families and the schools their kids attend. In this book I concentrate on not just what I can give to them, but what they are willing to give back in return. I have found I give far less than I receive from my kids and families.

About the Book
This is the second edition of Dave’s most popular book, All the Kids on My Block. Dave has added pictures at the beginning of each chapter and a study guide at the end.
All the Kids on My Block is a recounting of the many experiences that Dave has had with kids during his thirty five years, working as a Counselor for Lutheran Social Services in SD, Montana, and Iowa , and as a school social worker and a private practice therapist in Northwest Iowa. The joy, hope and love that kids shared with the adults in their lives are poignant and heart-warming.
Dave feels that throughout the years he has learned far more from his kids than what he has given to them.

About the Author
David Hoye lives in Everly Iowa with his wife Cheri. They have 2 children and 6 grandchildren who played a major role in his writing. His Midwest values and outlook come from his years of living in small towns In Montana, South Dakota and Iowa. In addition to All the Kids on My Block, Dave has also published 4 books of poetry and one novel. Dave adds his own positive perspective in all that he writes. Dave’s work in the school, combined with his work as a private practice therapist and as a lay minister has influenced both his writing and who he is as a person and his view of the world he lives in.
