Gospel Offense

At the beginning of the 20th century, the German, Austria-Hungary, and Ottoman Empires fought against Great Britain, the United States, France, Russia, Italy, and Japan. The war became known as World War I and was deemed “the war to end all wars.” Unfortunately “the war to end all wars” led to the deaths of over 16 million people, caused instability in Europe, and set the stage for the rise of the Nazi party in Germany.

The leader of the Nazi party, Adolf Hitler, rearmed Germany and signed treaties with Japan and Italy. Hitler’s ultimate plan was to dominate the world and kill all the Jews. In 1939, Hitler invaded Poland, thus starting World War II. Germany, Italy, and Japan—known as the Axis powers—fought against Great Britain, France, the United States, and Russia—known as the Allied powers.

Over the next six years, approximately 45 million people were killed, and 6 million Jews were murdered. From an American perspective, the Axis powers were the bad guys and from the Axis powers’ perspective the Allied powers were the bad guys. So who were the “good guys” and who were the “bad guys” in World War II? The answer will vary depending on your perspective and worldview. The next question is: If there is good and evil in the world, where or who does good and evil come from? My worldview of good and evil comes directly from the Bible.
