Breeze
You know those Arizona days
of still dead oven heat
when a deep dry breath scorches
and diaphanous mirages are shimmering sheets.
When I think I can take no more,
THIS reaches me near hell.
This slight breeze enlivens leaves.
I ask, “Where do breezes dwell?”
In mountainous crannies and crooks,
or the intestines of a cave,
or spun off in a hurricane wake,
and skip from wave to wave?
Do they dwell in waving prairie grass
or slide down glacial slope?
No matter! I ponder too much;
wherever they are is hope.

About the Book
This book is a continuation of the author’s first book, “A Poet’s Journey”. The poems have been written over the past forty years for a variety of audiences including young adults through older adults, who may be seeking faith, reflection, encouragement or humor. Some poems respond to current events, holidays, and various life experiences. A variety of poetic forms are used.
About the Author
This is the author’s second publication of poetry and is a continuation of his first book “A Poet’s Journey”. He enjoys the challenge of words: their meaning, sound and structure. For most of his career he was in education, working in schools, elementary through college. In the classroom he has taught Sunday School, History, Driver Education and Critical Thinking. He has led groups in Parenting class and in prison. He lives in NH with his wife; his three children and five grandchildren live nearby. Genealogy, investing and family gatherings are among is interests.
