On this cloudless evening drive where the stars shone as diamonds clear and bright through the sunroof of the limousine, Douglas sat. Relaxed in his seat, Something he rarely did, looking pleadingly at Marie, his eyes afire. She felt the heat of his gaze burn into her soul as he spoke again, she wondered if it was a dream? He repeated himself imploringly, he realized she had not understood his meaning the first time, he sat up. “Please consider the offer to marry me, Marie. “It’s all I ask. I can tell you respect me, but are unsure of yourself, I think, or perhaps of my intentions? I must confess that I’m hoping in time, you will come to love me”. He said slowly but assuredly. Marie had been watching him as he spoke, he’d looked directly into her eyes, they’d sparkled she he said he loved her. Sitting back resting her tilted head on her fingertips, her elbow propped up on the armrest. She looked out the window, her heart heavy within, then said with a sigh, “You are and have been a good friend to me”, there was an ache when she spoke, “ but marriage…?” Closing her eyes she thought of Robert, “I don’t know what to do…, I don’t know if I can.”

About the Author
Char Lee Dressen is a stay at home mother of seven children. She makes her home in a town at the edge of the Silicon Valley in California. When she isn’t ferrying children to and from work or school, she dives into her novels. Going to church and listening to preaching often times inspires stories for her books. She loves singing in the church choir and lending a helping hand whenever possible. Her unique stories are drawn or inspired by personal experiences, situations and drawing conclusions to lead readers to experience for themselves God’s faithfulness and unending, unyielding love for us all. Her strong faith has led her to share that faith through fiction writing, in the hopes that others will be inspired to forgive, love, be forgiven, and grow their faith. Her love of God, faith and family pushes her to strive for a better way. From the ashes of her life may the God who sees her as she is (broken and frail) a vessel for his use.
