Scripture: 4. Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. Observation: There is a sense of deceit and fraud associated with the slack hand. There is a sense of sharpness and decisiveness and openness associated with the diligent hand. One who works with a slack hand is gripping something that is making him slack. Therefore, He cannot do the work He needs to do because his hand is full of the wrong things. A man that gets the work done is the man who does not fill his hands with false ideas, but has a clear cut vision with what to occupy his hand. Application: What is it that makes you slack? Do you fill your hands with things that deceive you, or are fraudulent in their promise? Thus you waste time, energy and money grasping for those things. Free hands can be employed to accomplish things that end up bearing fruit. When doing God’s work, do you come with hands empty ready to bear fruit, ready to do His will, or do you come with hands filled, grasping hold of things with a false promise, things that do not belong to the matter at hand, things of self and not things of God?

Do you know the secret to access the most important thing a human being can possess? It cannot be purchased with gold or silver in a shop or department store or online. It is not found in the university or any other school established by mankind. It’s origin is not in the world of politics or government or in any human institution. It truly is a rare commodity among the people of the earth. It is where freedom, life, love, hope, faith, purity, truth, goodness, and peace abounds. Do you know about this greatest of all possessions? Do you know what it is? Wisdom leads you to it. Wisdom shows you where it is. Wisdom knows it. Are you listening to wisdom? She cries out daily to the children of mankind, and invites us to spend some time with her. She has a magnificent table set, and invites us to dine with her. She has something for us to discover. It is holy, and like His Name, it is incomprehensible. It is deeply personal and richly intimate. It gives substantial meaning to our existence.. It is our only salvation. It is an authentic relationship with the Personal God, who made the universe. Intimacy with the living God is what this book is about. It’s what Proverbs is about. Come to dinner and partake.
About the Author
The author of this study has been a student of the Bible since 1972. His first encounter with Proverbs was when he attended a weekly prayer meeting with a group of soldiers who used Proverbs as a guide to prayer. Later in 1974, he joined a group of men who were studying this book of wisdom at an I-Hop restaurant, in San Antonio, TX. That study formed the foundation for future studies that he did as he led various Bible studies over the years. After graduating from Texas Bible College in 1993, he began to incorporate Bible study methods he learned from hermeneutics class, combined with over 20 years of experience studying the scriptures. Nevertheless, this author confesses his utter dependence upon the Lord. Apart from the Lord, the scriptures would be a mystery. This study began to take this present form after having taught the Book of Proverbs twice since 2008 as a Sunday school teacher. He often confesses that this Book of Proverbs has saved his life, because it taught him the fear of the Lord and to turn away from evil.
