Truth
What is truth? The Colins English dictionary defines truth as: - "Truth, the quality of true, genuine, actual, or factual. A proven or verified fact, principle, etc.” In today's world, it seems that the word truth has been transformed to mean what an individual wants to believe rather than a reflection of reality. In 2016 the Oxford dictionary international word of the year was "post-truth" after the acrimonious US presidential election, and the BREXIT referendum caused a stellar increase in the word's usage. Post-truth is defined as "objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief." Again, this was highlighted in the 2020 US election, where the loser claimed foul play in the election process without providing a shred of evidence to substantiate these claims. Deadly consequences ensued as his followers went on a rampage. It seems that the one thing I have been looking to find, the truth is now not as important as a person's emotions. How did this happen? Why are people more concerned with their feelings than the truth? Steve Turners satirical poem, "Creed,” describes the modern mind beautifully. I thoroughly recommend it to you. Below are the last few sentences.
We believe that each man must find the truth
that is right for him.
Reality will adapt accordingly.
The universe will readjust. History will alter.
We believe that there is no absolute truth
excepting the truth that there is no absolute truth.
Is the last sentence of the poem right, "We believe that there is no absolute truth excepting the truth that there is no absolute truth." I was determined not to be drawn into today's narrative and plunge ahead for the truth. To be true to the Socratic principle, which is to "follow the argument wherever it leads."
The first stop was to evaluate Evolution and Darwinism. Charles Robert Darwin was an English Biologist known as the father of evolution. His proposition that all species of life have descended from simple common ancestors is considered a fundamental concept in science. If Darwin was right and man evolved from simple creatures without divine intervention, then there was no need for a creator and by extension attending those long church services. Obviously, the church would be pointless because the priest's prayers would be heard by no one other than the expectant congregation, so why attend these strange services and partake in peculiar rituals?

About the Book
“Finding Truth in Life and Love: One Man’s Journey.” Wow, what a title, but I hear you say the great thinkers of our time can explain Love, Life and the Universe, so why have you bothered writing a book?
Stephen Hawking says, “the universe can and will create itself from nothing”. Richard Dawkins explanation of life is, “We are survival machines, robot vehicles blindly programmed to preserve the selfish molecules known as genes”. And as for love, science has proven that love is just a bunch of chemical reactions. So, what can I offer on the subject at hand?
All these intelligent people indeed have more to say on the subject with all their knowledge gained through degrees and doctorates. What can I add to the subject with my most prised qualification being my 100-yards swimming certificate from primary school? Well, indeed, I do not have a lot of knowledge, but I do consider that life has taught me to be wise. You may ask what the difference is between knowledge and wisdom. Well, knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is not putting tomatoes in your fruit salad. Reading some of the explanations by the world’s greatest minds, like Stephen Hawking, when he says the universe will create itself from “nothing”, I get the uneasy feeling that someone is messing with the fruit salad.
This uneasiness and my stubborn, enquiring nature have set me on a half century discovery for truth. The earth is travelling at 67,000 miles per hour through space. Is someone driving? What about all the religions of the world? Are some or all of them true? What is the truth in any case? Does the truth matter? Why don’t we abandon the truth, and all invent our reality to suit our lives?
About the Author
The author has been an engineer for most of his working life. As an engineer, logic has been the bedrock of his career which has helped him build and maintain all kinds of broadcast systems. This logical approach to engineering has gained him a well-respected reputation within his field. When the author applies the same analytical approach to life, it has led him on an epic journey of discovery. He has been fascinated with history and origins from a young age, always prepared to challenge what others have said if it does not seem to cohere with logic and common sense. As a nominal Christian from birth, he often wondered why he was a “Christian”. If he was born into a Muslim family, would he be a Muslim? The religion a person is born into seems to be a poor reason to follow any belief system. The only qualification any faith system would need to make it worth following is if that system is true. The author embarked on a lifelong journey for truth. He has noticed the lack of logic applied to everyday life. The world has become increasingly confusing where the truth has been the casualty of political correctness. The author has written his first book, “Finding Truth in Life and Love: One Man’s Journey”, to help explain his view of life from what seems to be the most logical view of the world and how to live life. That is the view from a Christian world perspective.
