Chapter 28
“He must still be in the theater,” Madam declared.
“Well, too bad, he'll have to fend for himself,” I replied as I began to walk past a couple of shops that were in the mall.
“Oh no, you don't!” Miss said as she grabbed my elbow. “We are going back in there to save Chicken Man.”
“Well, you go ahead and do that. I will take a rest out here on this bench.”
“No, you're coming with us,” Madam stated as she pulled me back into the lobby of the movie theater. We headed towards the door where the Big Foot documentary was playing. We left the rest of the food group waiting at the entrance to the movie theater.
We crouched down as we entered the dark room where we could spy on Big Foot. We all gasped as we saw Chicken Man's beak stuck under Big Foot's arm. We could see him trying to twist and turn to pull his beak out, but it didn't seem to be working.
“As I said before, he will have to fend for himself,” I stated as I began to sneak back towards the exit.
“No, we have to get him out of there. Look at him; he's in pain,” Miss said with a worried face.
“Uh, fine, how are we going to get him unstuck?” I asked. “It looks impossible?”
“Well, Matthew 19:26 says, ‘With God, all things are possible,’ so we can do this.” Madam stated.
“That's right, Madam. So, what's the plan?” Miss glanced toward her sister.
“Only one thing we can do.”
“What's that?” I asked, looking at them confused.
“We go up behind Chicken Man. Deputy, you grab him by the waist, then Miss will be in the row above yours, grabbing you by the waist. I will be in the row above Miss and grab her by the waist. Once in position, we will count to three and pull as hard as we can.”
“Great plan,” Miss said.
“I don't think that's going to work,” I said. However, I don’t think Miss or Madam heard me. They were already making their way to their positions. I quickly followed, knowing that they couldn't pull Chicken Man by themselves. Once I was in place, I leaned over and put my arms around Chicken Man’s Costume, Miss grabbed my waist, as Madam explained earlier, and Madam grabbed her sister. I started to hear one of them giggle. “What is going on back there?” I whispered.
“I’m ticklish,” Miss responded with a giggle.
“Stop it, you two. Be serious.”
“I can’t stop; we better hurry.”
No way is this going to work, I thought. These twins are crazy! But there was no going back; Miss started to count.
“One, two, get ready, three.” We all began to pull, but Big Foot had a firm grip. It felt like Miss was giving me the Heimlich. We kept pulling and twisting to no avail, but when all hope seemed lost, Big Foot finally lifted his arm and turned around. Chicken Man was let loose, and we all flung backward, resulting in Chicken Man's feet hitting Mr. Stinky in the face. Big Foot flew back and ended up with his feet in the air.
“Hurry! Hurry! Let's go!” I yelled as I ran towards the end of the row of chairs and down the stairs.”
“Come on! Faster!” I could hear Madam scream behind me, but I didn't look back. No way was I going to save anyone else. I finally made it out of the dark movie theater and into the lobby again. The food group was waiting in the mall for us. I turned around to see Miss, Madam, and Chicken Man close behind.
I started heading towards the food group when I heard Miss scream, “Deputy, come quick!”
I turned around and Chicken Man had tripped and needed help off the floor.
“Uh!” I groaned as I headed their way. “Are you OK, Chicken Man?” I helped Miss and Madam pick him up.
“Yeah, everything's good now,” responded Chicken Man as he steadied himself on his feet. However, we didn't stay in one position for long. We had to get out of there before Mr. Stinky Toes stomped all over us.
