My Poetry: UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT

WISHFUL THINKING I thought many things in life, but I found these things would turn out quite different. I thought I would live up to my dreams of fortune and fame, but I found the nightmare of being broken, so broken that my shoulders fall weak, carrying such burdens of shame. I thought I would be in love forever, but I found hatred has a cruel way of being clever, the great division of together. I thought I would have happiness forever and always in my heart and so my eyes, but I found tears can’t help but to rain down as I cry an endless river that never seems to dry. Why, Oh, why? Can anybody advise? Please specify. For an answer, I’m standing by. I know plenty can sympathize as they, too, question, why, oh, why? And it doesn’t stop there- the dark thickness is in the air. So once again as I expel these false thoughts from within, let me begin. I thought I would have true friends who would last until the grave, but I found before a season’s freshly picked funeral flowers could rise, they had already died away, like the sun does each day. Yet never to return, O yesterday. I thought I would know freedom, a paradise before the serpent entered the garden of Eden. But I found prison walls, shackles, and silver chains. Guards watching my every step, for I no longer have a right to anything, not even my own name. I thought life would be pleasant, if not perfect, even plain, but in the least bit surely worth it. But I found sorrows, shame, betrayal, blame, punishment, and so much pain. I fell into failure- what a burn of this internal flame. Sadly, I thought many things in life, but I found these things would turn out quite different. However, this is life, although it’s easier said than done, but no matter what I thought, this is how I am living. Ω

Terrance truly makes it clear that although it may seem like you’re alone, we all face darkness. Yet in such a struggle, a fight, a willing heart can always stand up and walk within the light.
