CHAPTER ONE
For they were TAKEN with great fear, and he went up into the ship and returned.” The word taking in the Greek is “Sunecho” which means” To arrest as a prisoner, to afflict, perplex, constrain or stop.”
What happened to the whole country of Gadarenes? Great fear came upon those people, for fear is a spirit, and when you realize this truth: that fear is a spirit; you will begin to become fearless. Why? Because through the Mighty Name of Jesus we have power over the spirit of fear!
WHERE DID FEAR COME FROM?
My thoughts are Fear began in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned because before they sinned, they talked and walked with God. For they were made in the image of God, after his likeness, so Adam and Eve had the very nature of God. But when they sinned, they took on the nature of the devil (“in my opinion") which is a coward. For listen to what Adam said after he sinned, “And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” (Kjv) Genesis 3:9-10. So, you see that Adam took on the devil's nature which is a coward. Why? Because the definition of a coward is, “A person who lacks courage, especially, one who is shamefully unable to control (or get rid of) his fear and so shrinks from danger or trouble.” Adam was hiding from God because his nature had changed to a coward's nature. Therefore, he didn’t want to face trouble, responsibility, or judgment. But….
WHAT DOES FEAR DO TO A BELIEVER’S LIFE?
The spirit of fear attracts the very thing that a person fears the most. Just like a magnet to metal it pulls and causes to come to pass what the person is very afraid of.
Job learned this truth the hard way, for he said, “For my sighing (or my worrying) cometh before I eat, and my roaring’s are poured out like the waters. For the thing which I greatly FEARED is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is COME UNTO ME.” (kjv) Job 3:24-25. I want you to notice two things: fear came upon him first THEN that which he was afraid of came unto him.
My understanding is, fear works just like faith works because fear is faith twisted or inverted. Or it's the flip side of the evil “twin” of faith. The big difference is - it will destroy you and not bless you, for fear steals, kills, and destroys because it's of the devil. (kjv) St. John 10:10.
Now the act of being fearful is believing that which you fear will come to pass. So, to fear is to believe, or else WHY are you so afraid? And the truth is (if) you just go by what to see and hear all the time, you will always be fearful.
But you shouldn’t be moved by just what you see, hear, and especially by what you believe. Why? Because what you believe determines how you will REACT to any situation, and if you go just by what you see and hear all the time you will always be a fearful person. For your information is only based on what you can see, hear, imagine, or believe and that's not ENOUGH information.
For example, the Bible says, “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17. But watch this closely: fear also cometh by hearing, and hearing by what the devil and your five senses are telling you. So, the bottom line is, what do you believe?
You see, as human beings, we will always believe in something. In my words, (if) you don't believe this, then you will believe that; for example, a person says,” I don't believe in nothing!” But guess what? He still BELIEVES that he doesn't believe in anything! For no human being can get out of that act of believing, because we were created to believe. Since this is true, why not believe God's Word?
