As he was going home, he happened to walk past where John was baptizing people. John saw him and said, "There is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one I was talking about when I said, 'A man is coming after me who is greater than I am.' I did not know who he would be, but I came baptizing in order to prepare the people of Israel for his work."
And John also said this: "I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven and stay on him. When I first saw him, I did not know that he was the one, but God, who sent me to baptize, had said to me, 'You will see the Spirit come down and stay on a man; he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' I have seen it," said John, "and I tell you he is a Son of God."
Two of Johns’ disciples heard him say this and went after Joshua. He saw them following him, stopped, and asked, "What do you want?" Looking for a way to start a conversation, they asked, "where are you staying?"
Since it was late in the afternoon he said, "Come and see." So, they went with him and spent the rest of that day together. One of them was Andrew, a fisherman. He left and found his brother Simon and told him, "we have found the chosen one." Then he took Simon to Joshua.
The next day Joshua continued into Galilee. Along the way he found Philip and said to him, 'come with me!" (Philip was from Bethsaida, the town where Andrew and Simon lived.) Philip found Nathaniel and told him, "We have found the one whom Moses wrote about in the book of the Law and whom the prophets also wrote about. He is Joshua, son of Joseph, from Nazareth." Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Nathaniel asked. "Come and see for yourself," answered Philip.

About the Author
N. Scott Cupp, a native New Yorker, received degrees from SUNY Canton, Denver University, Louisville Presbyterian Seminary, and McCormick Seminary in Chicago, with a doctorate in congregational transformation from McCormick. He’s served as head of staff for congregations across the eastern half of the country. Dr. Cupp retired in 2017 and has served as a guest worship leader for numerous churches. He and his wife, Tonia, have three grown children and live in suburban Syracuse.
