Unexpected Love

“What’s wrong? What is it?” Then he heard the sound. Rattlesnake. He pushed Meri aside and with clothes everywhere, it was hard for him to find the critter. Carefully clearing clothing, he saw it, grabbed it, threw it outside and shot it. When he got back to the door, Meri pointed. Another one. After taking care of it, he searched every inch of the house until he was satisfied it was safe. They were two of the biggest rattlers he’d seen in a long time. Picking up clothes, checking a second time, he headed outside to find Meri on the porch. He knew who did this. He was so stiff-legged with anger, he couldn’t hardly think straight. He took a couple of calming breaths and took Meri in his arms. “Why?” She sobbed. “Why? I don’t even know these people. Why are they doing this to me? They must have sneaked in the back door while Margie and I were on the porch.” She hiccupped as tears ran down her face. She looked at Clint and again ask, “why?” “I don’t know Meri. I’m so sorry. I’m afraid you’ll lose the baby if this keeps up. Let’s go inside. I have a plan and someone could be listenin.’” Inside, Clint wiped her tears, took her face in his hands and kissed her with all the love, longing and tenderness he had. He didn’t plan it, wasn’t looking for it, but here it was – an unexpected love.
