Day 1 Date: Priorities Meditation Take two minutes. Are you ready to get started? It’s not as scary as it might seem; just set your timer for two minutes, get comfy, grab your coffee, close your eyes, and say to God, “Good morning, God. What do you have for me today?” After your quiet time, take a couple of minutes to read the daily devotional and journal your thoughts on the journal page. Blessed is the person who does not follow the advice of wicked people, take the path of sinners, or join the company of mockers. Rather, He delights in the teachings of the Lord and reflects on his teachings day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams—a tree that produces fruit in season and whose leaves do not wither. He succeeds in everything He does. (Psalms 1:1–3 GW) Why is it so easy to put other things or other priorities before God? My life is chaotic, and I’m overwhelmed, but I need to take time for my devotion and put that first in my life. I must start my mornings with quiet time in God’s presence, no matter how busy my life and mind may be. Sitting quietly before Him with a cup of coffee in my hand and saying good morning to God keeps my day moving smoothly. I ask Him, “What is it that you have for me to do today, God?” Then I just sit quietly and listen. My thoughts might go in many directions, but I have learned to focus them back on God by writing down important thoughts that come up or just saying a mantra to get my focus back on Him. Sometimes, He might softly remind me of things to do for the day and how to accomplish them in my very busy schedule. He might show me a solution for something I’ve been struggling with, and how to fix it. I may feel Him telling me how much He loves me. There is no better way to start your day than quietly in His presence. God desires intimacy with you. He knows you inside and out even better than you know yourself. Melanie J. McGinnis is a dedicated wife and mother. She graduated from Bible College which led her to minister as a missionary in Mexico, Sweden, Norway and Holland. She has led many positions in church; youth group, bible study, worship team and back stage manager. She has a career in commercial property management. Melanie is also a freedom coach for women who seek to get unstuck from what is holding them back in living their God given purpose. She is an artist, a runner, singer and has had a loving relationship with God her entire life. This is her first book.
