I Am a Child of Abraham

Day 1 Abraham’s Journey of Faith Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. —Genesis 12:1–4 (NIV) When God lays it upon our hearts to do something, do we wait until we have clearer instructions before responding? Are you afraid to move because you do not see the end result of the process? In Genesis 12:1–4, God clearly wanted to bless Abraham. He told Abraham to leave his comfortable dwelling and go to a land he would show him. What is fascinating about that scripture is that God did not tell Abraham where he was going. We know that he ended up in the Land of Canaan, but God told Abraham to go to a land that “I will show you.” Abraham was required to just go. The Bible does not tell us that Abraham asked God which direction he should go. He didn’t ask for a map; he didn’t ask for a blueprint or an address. All Abraham needed was an assurance that God told him to go and that God will be with him and bless him. We live in a culture where one is required to have all the details before moving forward. We need to know the feasibility of a project before beginning. However, with God, all we need is the assurance that he is with us, that he has directed us, and that he will see us through. We do not need the blueprint. Moving in faith requires complete trust in God that once he directs us, he will take us to the promise. Abraham obeyed the voice of God without knowing the details of where he was going. In response to his faith, God blessed him abundantly. My Prayer Father, thank you for the example of your servant Abraham. Give me the strength to hold on to your word and move in faith, believing that you are able to do in my life what you promised to do. I believe you are able to bless me abundantly as I move in faith and receive my blessings in Jesus’s name.
