NOTES, QUOTES and FOOD FOR THOUGHT
NOTES
“Miracles follow a pattern: Something significant before, … Jesus’ recognition of a need and determination of faith, … the miracle itself causing rejoicing in the recipient, … and bystanders astonished and affected by it.”
“Jesus was a multi-tasker. … the list of all he did is remarkable.”
“Jesus never used His power in performing miracles for His own safety and aggrandizement … He never worked a single miracle on His own behalf … they always enriched others: … water to wine saved the host from embarrassment … raising the widow’s son gave her hope for the future … calming the sea gave the disciples one more glimpse of who Jesus truly was … feeding the 4,000 and 5,000 cared for people’s basic needs … healing the centurion’s servant showed He was here for both Jews and Gentiles.”
“Jesus had enemies … the very ones he came to save.”
QUOTES
“… nothing stereotypical about the miracles…some healed in crowd, others in solitude … some from a distance, others when present … some instantaneous, others gradually … by a word, touch, spittle or clay.” Herbert Lockyer
“I never have any difficulty believing in miracles since I experienced the miracle of a change in my own heart.” Augustine
“But Jesus was not a miraculous therapeutic machine: He dealt with individuals individually and personally and not in a mechanical way.” Herbert Lockyer
“A miracle is an interference with nature by a supernatural power. A miracle is something outside our box invading our little box, something outside our world coming into our world and making waves and ripples. … A miracle is God stepping into the universe, setting aside the normal laws of nature to do a supernatural act.” John MacArthur
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
“Jesus’ miracles teach something more than just the surface value of the supernatural acts of the Lord. Each was designed to teach the disciples, the people who witnessed the miracles, and Christians today valuable lessons.”
“The miracles brought physical healing, but more importantly they brought spiritual healing.”
“There is no knowledge of how many more miracles He performed. How many more people did He heal while He was on earth? How many more miracles were used specifically to help the twelve disciples know who He really was? How many more people were restored to full life with just the touch of His hand? The miracles that are recorded are the miracles that God wanted known, and these are sufficient for believers to get a feel for the power, love, mercy, and grace of the Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.”
“People have physical sight to see the world around them, but they need spiritual sight to see the wonder of the truth of God’s Holy Word. It is through spiritual sight that man is led to God to accept His grace to inherit eternal life.”
“Bring someone to Jesus and then let Jesus work His miracles on that person’s life.”

Explain why the Jewish leadership should not have been surprised by Jesus’ miracles.
Many were healed when they touched the fringe on Jesus’ garment. While that may sound a bit mystical or magical, there was a sound theological background as to why they did what they did. See what you can find out about a tzitzit and why that part of Jewish clothing was so important.
