“It’s murder, Mom!” Lindsey’s voice sounded really stressed---or maybe it was a bad long-distance line. A vision of Anson Kerringer’s dead body on the floor, frozen in the agony of a painful, murderous death, flooded my mind, momentarily blocking my daughter’s complaints about her job. I wondered whether those awful flashbacks would ever be gone and considered that maybe taking a mother-daughter trip was too stressful for Lindsey on top of the pressure of her job. Hyper described Lindsey these days.
“Why do you stay with that job, Honey, if it makes you so unhappy? You could get another accounting job and maybe a better one,” I suggested hopefully. I believed that Lindsey was over-utilized and under paid. As third in line of my four children, Lindsey was smart and fun to be with. I knew that we would have fun together on the trip we were planning. However, I felt that she should be more assertive with her bosses at her workplace.
“I don’t dislike my job. It’s the commuting that’s so hard to take. If I could find someone to share a place with me, I could afford to live closer to the office,” Lindsey explained for the umpteenth time it seemed. “It’s a shame you don’t live in Denver instead of Wanderwood, Mom. Then I could live with you and not have to deal with this issue.”

As Lindsey discovers romance with a cute cruise staffer, Addie discovers the leader of the Wild Cards…dead! This whirlwind trip to a Mexican ruin, a Jamaican falls, and a sunny beach on Grand Cayman leaves Addie short on time to solve this murder, especially with distraction from an interesting museum curator from Texas!
About the Author
Judy Spoon Ertel, world traveler and author extraordinaire, grew up in several small towns in Oklahoma. In her past life, Judy wrote a newspaper column, serialized short stories, directed plays for civic theater, produced advertising, co-owned and co-managed a furniture store, and taught middle school and high school in Texas. She is very familiar with life in small Texas towns like Wanderwood TX, the fictional setting for the Addie Girard Mysteries. Currently, she co-habs with her daughter Kate and their three cats.
