The Rowly Growly Bear looked out at the astonishing forest. He couldn’t wait to make a new friend! Slowly at first, he stepped out of the cave. Then, as a bubbly feeling came up in his tummy, he began to run through the trees. He was so excited that he didn’t see the root sticking up in front of him. “Ouch!” he yelled as he tripped over the root and fell on his snout.
“Are you okay?” A small voice asked from above. The Rowly Growly Bear looked up. Where did that voice come from? “That looked like it really hurt,” said the same voice. A small bird sat on a branch staring at the Rowly Growly Bear. “I’m okay,” he said, rubbing his tender nose. “My name is Rowly Growly Bear, what is yours?” “I am Mrs. Bird.” Her voice sounded like a song. The Rowly Growly Bear knew instantly Mrs. Bird was going to be his best friend.

About the Author
As a mother of two little bears, Danetta Shelburne knows how important friendship is to her young children. Having gone through moving as a young child and starting over at a new school herself, she knew how hard it was for her son when his best friend moved. However, new friendships are just around the corner, and Danetta had the privilege of creating this book with her lifelong friend from 3rd grade, Leah Meuer! Danetta seeks to teach her children to value and build lifelong friendships. After her son experienced losing a friend who moved, and then having to move himself, she wrote this book to help him cope with the experience and bring him hope that new friends would come. She prays that this book will help encourage other children who experience the ups and downs of friendship, too!
