On your mark, get set, go! We have all heard these words when we are getting ready to race or watching someone else. The term “on your mark” is saying, Are you ready? Are you where you need to be? Are you prepared to take off when we say go? Many thoughts may enter your mind before a race. Have you purchased the correct shoes to gain traction? Are you wearing the right outfit to repel the wind you are going to blaze through? Preparation is such an important aspect of completing a task. We must prepare for everything we do in life, whether it’s a race, a job, a goal, or maybe even going through a trial. The truth is we need to be prepared for when that gun sounds and the task ahead is set in motion.
We are talking about a race, but what if it were a storm we are about to go through? Have we prepared ourselves spiritually and mentally to endure it? The question may come to mind of how that is even possible. I have heard it said if we stay close to God in the good times of our life, He will be much closer when the problems arise. When the word “set” comes, are we where we are supposed to be? Is our foot up to the line and feet set in the stocks so that when the trigger is released, we are ready to spring forth in action? This action of being set, of being where we are supposed to be, is so important. The question we must ask ourselves is “Am I setting myself up for success, or am I putting myself in a situation where I will probably fail?” God will lead and guide us where He wants us to be if we are paying attention to Him, as we are going to discuss in length in this book. Finally, when we hear the word “go,” it is time to put preparation and getting set in motion as the muscles connect with our brain, we find ourselves surging out of the gate, and before we know it, we are in the race of our lives!
