Human beings cannot live without hope. Even so, hopelessness has spread like a contagious disease to every corner of the globe. Young people look at their world and see little reason to be encouraged. Older people fear their children and grandchildren will face dangers and difficulties that were unimaginable just a few years ago. Considering the bleak future ahead, is hope even a possibility? The answer to this question is … yes! The book of Revelation provides a dramatic description of God’s intervention within the affairs of fallen humanity. As this wicked world spirals out of control, God’s righteous judgments will be unleashed, and Jesus will appear as the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He will rule and reign in righteousness, and his kingdom will have no end. Knowing that Jesus is coming soon brings hope to the troubled heart. This is why Rev. 1:3 states, “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.” Knowing that God is in control inspires both encouragement and excitement about the future. I have noticed two extreme approaches to Revelation. Some distort its message with wild speculations and unfounded predictions. Others dismiss the prophecy believing it is too difficult to understand. Both positions are in error. Although genuine believers will differ on various aspects of Revelation, all agree that the focus of the book is Jesus Christ in all his glory and splendor. The Book of Revelation: God’s Last Word for the Last Days is a verse-by-verse explanation of God’s final prophecy. It was written for people who are interested in future events but have a difficult time understanding the signs and symbols in the biblical text. Students, pastors, and laypeople will find this resource intellectually stimulating, spiritually strengthening, and emotionally encouraging. As the end-times unfold, the resulting perils and perplexities will be overwhelming. Consequently, hope will be hard to find. Thankfully, God has revealed what the future holds. Knowing what is on the prophetic horizon will provide comfort for all who place their faith in Jesus. About the Author
Don Hattaway has taught the Bible for 35 years. He has pastored Emmanuel Baptist in Blackshear, GA, Tabernacle Baptist in Cartersville, GA, and presently serves First Baptist in Douglas, GA. He has earned degrees from Brewton-Parker College (Bachelor of Music Education) and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry). He is the former President and Parliamentarian of the Georgia Baptist Convention. He has also served as a trustee for Brewton-Parker College, Shorter University, and the Christian Index. He is married to Sonia. They have three children, Nathan, Daniel, and Anna Lane.
