I could approach this text of Matthew 5–7 as a political fact-finding mission that displays my preconceptions of years gone by. Instead, I have chosen to try to take off my rose-colored glasses of presupposition and look at this passage in a different way. This venture has come from painful and painstaking self-assessment of both my motives and my presuppositions. It has been weighed and reweighed, counted, and recounted many more times than any of the presidential ballots. This journey into the sermon has taken me on a thirty-year odyssey through much study and more prayer. I hope it continually takes me on a journey for the rest of my years as well. So I offer it to you. This could prove to be helpful, or you may choose to dismiss it. It has given me the opportunity to let the plow down a little deeper. For that experience, I will be forever grateful to Jesus.

A Mountain of a Sermon looks at the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5-7 in a unique perspective. I believe this remarkable passage can be considered in two ways. One is to be considered as a legalistic endeavor. That may be true. The other is to look at the Sermon and dig a little deeper to see the principle that is foundational to the instruction. This is a methodology to change actions by changing the heart.
About the Author
Kim resides in his family’s homeplace in the rural Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Brenda, for 50 years and they have two children and five grandchildren. Kim attended Sunset School of Preaching, in Lubbock, Texas, and graduated in 1979. In 2009, he earned a Bachelor of Biblical Studies Degree from Sunset International Bible Institute. He has been a minister for forty-four years, spreading the word of God to many.
