Day 3
El Shaddai: God Almighty
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless.”
—Genesis 17:1 (NIV)
Dawn breaks and as you start your day, a profound message from the ancient scriptures waits to nourish your soul. Today we turn our hearts to a name of God that encapsulates His might and sufficiency:
El Shaddai (el shad-dye).
The name El Shaddai is one of the many names given to God in the Bible. It’s a Hebrew term that translates to God Almighty. This powerful declaration sets the tone for our understanding of who God is in our lives.
El Shaddai signifies a God who is all-sufficient and all-bountiful, the source of all blessings. He is not just a mighty God but the Almighty God. He can fulfill every promise He has made and answer every prayer we lift up. Remember this when you feel overwhelmed or uncertain, your problems are never bigger than El Shaddai.
Embrace the truth that El Shaddai is greater than any challenge you face.
As we look closer into understanding El Shaddai, it’s crucial to note that His almighty power isn’t distant or impersonal. On the contrary, He uses His power for our benefit. The same omnipotent hand that created the universe reaches into our personal lives to provide, protect, and guide.
Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.
(Psalm 56:3 NKJV)
Our human nature often causes us to doubt or fear when facing difficulties. However, knowing that El Shaddai holds all power can bring peace in these moments of uncertainty. Our weaknesses don’t limit his strength; instead, His power shines brightest when we admit our need for Him.
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1 NLT)
Much like Abram, we too encounter various seasons in life. Times when our faith wavers, our hope dwindles, or the weight of the world pushes down on our shoulders. It’s in these moments that understanding God as El Shaddai becomes most pertinent.
- In loneliness, remember that He is sufficient to be our companion and friend.
- In lack, He’s our provider, ensuring our essential needs are met.
- In doubt, He’s the unwavering pillar of truth.
- In fear, He’s the mighty one who stands beside, before, and behind us.
Trust in El Shaddai’s power, especially during times of weakness and uncertainty.
As we continue our journey with El Shaddai, it’s essential to remember that His power isn’t just about grand miracles or dramatic displays. It’s also seen in the small, everyday blessings and guidance
He provides. From giving us strength to face another day to providing for our needs, His almighty power is always at work.
If you find yourself doubting God’s ability to meet your needs or fulfill His promises in your life, remember Abraham and Sarah. Despite their old age and barrenness, they experienced the secret of birth because they believed in El Shaddai.
God’s assertion of His almightiness was coupled with a call to Abram, “Walk before me and be blameless.” It wasn’t just a command but an invitation. It’s as if God was saying, “Knowing that I am El Shaddai, the all-sufficient one, will you trust me fully? Will you align your life with my ways?”
Today that same call resonates in our hearts. Knowing that He is sufficient for all our needs, will we trust Him? Will we seek to walk blamelessly, understanding that His might and power are behind, before, and within us?
Take a moment to ponder the areas of your life where you’ve felt insufficient or overwhelmed. Bring those situations before El Shaddai. Allow His sufficiency to wash over your insufficiency.
Prayer:
El Shaddai, God Almighty, today I recognize Your power and sufficiency. I lay down my weaknesses, doubts, and fears before You. I trust in Your might and provision. Help me walk blamelessly before You, knowing You are more than enough for every challenge I face. Amen.
Remember, as children of the Almighty God, El Shaddai, there is nothing too hard for us because there’s nothing too hard for Him!
