Cassie came running through the hall to the kitchen where her mom had breakfast waiting for her. “Mom! It’s processor day!” She squealed excitedly. Her mom smiled with an equal excitement. “Yes, it is! And Caden will finally be able to hear!” She said bending down to tickle Cadens nose. Caden joined their visible excitement and started kicking his feet and giggling, even though he didn’t understand why they were celebrating. “Mama, can Emily come with us today?” Cassie asked, placing her breakfast dish in the sink. Emily was Cassie’s favorite babysitter. She especially loved that Emily knew a lot about cochlear implants and processors, because her brother had them too! “She sure can!” Her mother replied, “She is on her way now to help us get ready to go!”

About the Author
Being given the news that her son was fully deaf, Jillian and her family had unexpectedly embarked on a journey that would change the course of their life. Though the process of having her son receive processors was mentally and emotionally exhausting, the journey had just begun. Navigating how to help her son through this new world of sound, she also had the task of helping her young daughter understand what was happening while being mindful of how young she was. Being inspired by both her daughter and her son in this unique season of their life, Jillian felt moved to develop a book series which mirrored their very own experience. This idea was motivated by the desire to give parents in a similar situation a resource to help answer some of the many questions her own daughter had during this time. This book series opens a safe place to ask and understand more about kids with cochlear implants, so if you know a kid with cochlear implants, this book is for you too!
