Why Jesus?

The Blueprint & the Foreman King David wrote: Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain (Psalm 127:1). In other words, if you are following your own blueprint for life instead of God’s, you are wasting your time. Your very best building plans will come up short in one category or another. Of course it’s better to build with a blueprint than without one. But what’s even better than that? Having an experienced, knowledgeable and expert foreman to assist you during every part of the process. Christians have access to both the blueprint and the expert. Each of us can go off-course if we choose and build our own structure—even draw our own blueprints. As someone who tried that myself, I can assure you it’s not just a waste of time and effort, it’s exhausting and heartbreaking. God had a Plan when He created the world and gave dominion of it to mankind. The first humans fell for the temptation to craft their own plan, turning their backs on God. As mankind walked further and further away from available partnership with God, they found it more and more difficult to hear His voice or recognize His wisdom. God had Plan B ready. The arrival of Plan B seems a long time in coming (4,000 years). However, by God’s superior timetable, the expert foreman came on the scene at the exact best moment. Jesus had not only studied the blueprint (the scrolls on which the Word of God was written), he also laid the foundation. A verse in one of the Church Epistles reads: I Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. The letter to Timothy (which is for the instruction of Christian leaders) tells us in I Timothy 2:4 that God desires …all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. Again, let’s reiterate that you don’t have to say “yes” to this invite until you get enough information to be sure it’s legit. It can only be to our advantage to get to know this skillful foreman, to follow his lead and example, to learn from his expertise and to heed his explanations of how the Blueprint reveals the Architect. Jesus opened up an entirely new and different way to live life, a life in which human beings can be in permanent contact with their Creator and therefore guided in everyday victory. We’re going to look at the four distinct ways Jesus’ life and ministry demonstrated God’s heart to the people of the world. Then we will see why we may decide to join the construction crew, fully equipped with the latest power tools; receive the best on-the-job training and; how individually and collectively we can make lasting contributions to God’s design.
