Where is God? … I am glad you asked!
Where is God? Where is God in the midst of a world that is filled with war, violence, wickedness, religious turmoil, financial tension, and a million more despairing issues that face our world? Has He lost control of what He has created? Has He diminished in power and sovereignty that He once possessed? If neither of these is true, how long will He allow such calamity to continue?
To an unbelieving world, these questions may seem to have merit when offered the concept of an All-Powerful, All-Knowing, All-Caring God. To view current, global situations without a firm faith in the Word of God and the God of the Word, doubt and anxiety are certainly understandable. However, to those of us who have found the joy and assurance that come from a living and lively relationship with God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, what we see in the “nightly news” creates an air of excitement. This excitement is due to the fact that God Himself has given us a prophetic glimpse of the signs and times that will happen as we approach the last days of human history as we have known it.
Since the fall of man in Genesis 3, sin has been causing pain, sorrow, confusion, and chaos among God’s prized creation, mankind. As population increased and nations developed, these undesirable consequences of sin have grown and manifested themselves in a constant elevation of size and scope, leading to a horrific spiral in the 21st century.
Where is God in all of this? He is still on His throne and in complete control of all that goes on here on planet earth! Has His glory and power somehow faded over the course of these past 6,000 years? Never in a million years (and more)! He is “the same yesterday, and today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). How long will He allow all of this to continue? … Well, I am glad you asked!
For Bible believers, three bedrock beliefs have sustained us and continue to be our source of confidence… “The Book, The Blood, and The Blessed Hope.” The Word of God is our eternal source of information, instruction, and inspiration. From it, we learn where we came from, what we can expect, what is expected of us, and where we are going from here. The blood of Jesus Christ is the “covering” for all our sin and what brings us into a personal and eternal relationship with the God of the universe. Through faith in Jesus Christ and His completed work of salvation on the Cross, we become a part of the “family of God.” You can be sure that as a child of God, our Heavenly Father cares about and cares for His kids. His care reaches us now in troubled times and allows us to share in triumphant times which are yet to come.
Finally, we rest in The Blessed Hope…The Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Down through the ages, believers have suffered persecution from the wicked, scoffing from the “wise of this world,” and overall disregard from those who “believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness” (II Thess. 2:12). Yet, we continue to contend that according to the Scriptures, Jesus Christ will return one day and there will be a global and eternal reckoning for nations and individuals alike.
Rejection of the biblical teachings of the Second Coming reaches all the way back to the writing of the New Testament. The Apostle Peter was led by the Holy Spirit to address the issue and his message is preserved and relevant for the times in which we live.
