The Loyalty of a Christian

The Loyalty of a Christian was written to enlighten today’s Christians about some biblical basic truths. It is to help Christians live the life of a truly humble, loving, obedient disciple of Christ Jesus, as His apostles have instructed them.

The Loyalty of a Christian was the Basic Christian Seminar, composed by Dan L Coyle for regular church attendees. Before Coyle translated it into book form, it was a twelve-hour seminar. The Loyalty of a Christian is a self-analysis book beginning with Christian honesty about yourself. It starts with questions like:

• Do you honestly believe what you say you believe about God’s Word and your Christian life?

• Is your spiritual maturity level consistent with your spiritual age? How long have you been a Christian? Is Jesus Christ really first in your life?

The Loyalty of a Christian is loaded with Scripture that you, the reader, can understand. As in 1 Timothy 1:5, “But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” Coyle says, “When you really love Jesus with more than just words, you then start to love people and do what it takes to help them, in spite of what it may cost you.” When you love others with Christ Jesus’s love, you are forced to conquer whatever your personal hang-ups are in order to forgive and be forgiven.

Coyle uses many helpful stories and illustrations to bring into clear focus the life—changing truths that he so aptly expounds in this book. I especially appreciate that he never cites a Bible commentary or quotes a Bible teacher to give authority to his thesis. Rather, he quotes the Bible extensively as the highest authority to validate his stand. His illustration of the spokes of a wheel to help one understand the importance of proper balance in their Christian walk is one of the best I have ever encountered. This illustration alone is worth the price of the entire book.

The more you love Jesus, the greater your loving concern for everyone will be. The more you love Jesus, the more you will feel real pain for others. The more you love Jesus, the more you will want to obey Jesus; allowing the power of the Holy Spirit to work in and through you to produce more spiritual fruit in you.

There are two very important points that every Christian must learn:

• Christ Jesus’s love for and toward others

• Christ Jesus’s forgiveness for yourself, your spouse and others

If you are a believing Christian, then you must always continue to lovingly forgive, no matter what. There is no other way for a true Christian believer to live but to trust and obey.

In your spiritual and fleshly life, a humble, loving, obedient disciple is all about loving and obeying Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit working through you, by you controlling and subjecting your flesh to Jesus’s wants and desires. It’s all about fighting against fleshly desires, by putting to death the deeds of your fleshly mind and giving complete control of your life to Jesus. As a Christian, you must be ready to be tested. If you suffer as a Christian, you must not feel ashamed. When you hold the title/name “Christian”, you must glorify God. Are you really ready to be persecuted for Jesus? Do you love Him that much?
