Familiarity is a distraction that robes us from experiencing the fullness in God and in life. When we become familiar with the things and the ways of God, we miss out on the “more” He would want to do in, with and for us. The main objectives for this book are to help you identify the subtle distraction of familiarity that can hinder your spiritual and personal growth, and to help you attain fullness and maximization of your potential in God and in life. Flexibility, humility, adaptability, and obedience are key ingredients for spiritual and personal development.
Among the causes of familiarity is the unteachable spirit or attitude. When pride and familiarity are combined, they breed a false, overly self-confidence attitude that makes one think they know it all. Other causes of familiarity include: ignoring advice due to past successes and self-reliance, fear and conformity, comparing ourselves to others, tendencies to not “rock the boat,” pride, arrogance, rebellion and disobedience.
God does more when we are flexible. God matures us and trains us differently depending on the lessons He wants us to learn and what He plans for our future. He is the God of abundance when we are flexible and adaptable. Often, the outcome is exceedingly abundantly above what we expected or know. To curb familiarity, we should take responsibility by obtaining knowledge and wisdom in what we are about to venture into. We should evaluate the advice we receive and ask for clarity if unsure. We should examine who we associate with lest they mislead us. We should inquire of the Lord, rest in the Lord and let God have His way.
