Sing Like A Bird
The rain has ended.
The sun is shining.
The air, washed clean.
A red cardinal sits on a limb
of the maple tree
singing his heart out.
Singing what, I wonder?
Could it be, Hallelujah! -
praise, joy, and thanks to God?
Lord knows, he isn’t
gossiping, complaining, or
criticizing.
What if he’s an angel
sent to teach us
how to live?
Or maybe,
he’s demonstrating
what we might be doing in heaven:
singing, Hallelujah! -

About the Author
American author Lois Lewis has had a lifelong love of nature. She has pursued activities such as hiking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, and cross-country skiing. In her poetry collections she writes about animals, birds, fish, insects, marine life, trees and flowers, as well as spiritual and social issues. She has lived in eleven states and Mexico. She currently resides in the foothills of the Ozarks.
