As Christians we are judged in the example we set as followers of Christ. Do we represent the love toward others that Jesus Christ represented? Are we authentic in the image we represent as Christians and the qualities of the faith? Whatever we do in representing Christ in this world it does not guarantee that we will be spared from difficult and even tragic occurrences at times. However, the grace of God will give us a level of integrity in our spiritual core. Christian faith will also give us a solid and reliable source of strength to weather the storms that come in advanced age. The loss of family members and friends can leave us a different person, knowing that we will never be the same again. Grief and healing needs to take its course and be expressed. This process of death, grief and healing can leave us with a new appreciation for the miracle of life and a new and deeper sense of the reality of our God.
One of the best ways to prepare for the future is to assess the nature and strength of our faith in God. Once we are comfortable that our faith is strong and totally dependent upon Jesus Christ we have achieved the best preparation for the future.
A highly effective and essential way to prepare for your eternal life as a believer is to establish a routine way of connecting with God in your daily life. This could be a daily time for Bible reading, prayer, meditation, reading Christian literature, reading a devotional, write in a daily journal, attending church and various church programs. It is important to establish a daily schedule method in which you connect with your faith in God. This will richly bless you and reinforce your preparation efforts. Another very important way to connect with God each day is to surround yourself with positive and supportive people who are interested and believe in you. You will learn much from others and, in turn be supportive in witnessing to them. These building blocks in constructing a bridge to connect with God can establish a foundation of preparation to last. It is key to have confidence as a believer. Preparation for eternity depends upon it.
I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God's mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Col. 2:2–3)
As a believer we need to recognize our value and significance to God and keep our worries in their proper perspective (see Luke 12:22–25). Everything we need is found in the Kingdom of God (see Luke 12:31). Distractions like worry will always attempt to take us on a different path than the one God wills for us. Focus on the proper preparation for our life to come is essential. If we are properly connecting with the message and will of God through prayer, worship, Bible reading and church we will not be deterred in our focus.
